Hi frens,
I believe there is no other word that describes worship better than "surrender". Surrender is the essence of worship and if you build a lifestyle of surrendering every area of your life (studies, work, relationships, habits) to God, you are actually building a lifestyle of worship.
What is worship?
The Apostle Paul said that we must "offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing- this is your spiritual act of worship." (Romans 12:1)
From here, we know that worship is not merely singing a few songs in church services or raising hands or any other acts such as jumping or shouting for joy. These acts are good but God is looking for more than that. He is looking at the heart.
"The Lord does not at the things man look at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7b)
God looks not at what men look to define passion and commitment. I recently asked one of my friends how he deduces someone is committed to the Lord. He said that if someone likes Christian songs, he is a committed Christian. But God seeks your actions, to the heart.
How do we worship in a way that is pleasing to God?
Jesus gives us the correct way to worship God- "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks." (John 4:23)
We must worship God in spirit, which means not worshipping with only your mind but with your inner being as well. Because God is spirit, we must worship Him in spirit.
Secondly, we must worship God in truth, which means living a life that is a testimony to what we say or sing.
Living a life of surrender
When you surrender, it means you totally give up something. In this case, we have to give up our total being (our desires, rights and principals) to follow God. Becuase surrender is the ultimate way to freedom.
God does not want you to surrender and start living a life of "blind faith". But the Apostle Paul says that God gives you hope as you surrender your life to Him. "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
Always remember that Hope is not positive thinking in which the outcome is not known to you but Hope is given when you know the outcome and is just waiting for it to happen. Thus, we can have Hope as Jesus has already won the victory of salvation on the cross.
Let's surrender our lives and see God's plans coming to pass. Remember, that nothing (power, principalities) can separate us from the love of God!
In His Love,
Shaun
